মুঘল অধিকৃত সুবে-বাংলা একনা ছিলো এক স সম্পন্ন জনপদ। এখানকার মানুষগুলির জীবন জুড়ে ড়ে ছিলো নিরবিচ্ছিন্ন প্রশান্তি আর সুখ সমৃদ্ধি। মসলিন নাম নামক মায়াবী তত্ত্বতে যেন গাঁথা ছিলো মানুষগুলি জীবন। মুঘল সাম্রাজ্যের প্রাণকেন্দ্র দিল্লি-আত্মার মানুষগুলি যেমন ভালোবাসায় আবেগে অভিভূত হয়েছে, প্রেমের কুহকে দিশেহারা হয়েছে, আবার সঠিক পথ খুঁজে পেয়েছে, তেমনি মুঘলদের সুবেদার শাসিত সুবের মানুষগুলির জীবন আবর্তিত জাগতিক আর মানবিক চালিকা শক্তি দ্বারা। 'বিচলিত সময়' ইতিহাস আশ্রিত একটি আলেখ্য। ইতিহাস আশ্রিত কিন্তু ইতিহাস নয়। ইতিহাস ঘটনা পরস্পরায় খতিয়ান। আর উপন্যাস ঘটনার মোড়কে মানব-মানবীর হৃদয়মথিত চিত্রায়ণ। উপন্যাসটির পটভূমি বিশাল এবং ব্যাপক। আর সেই পটভূমি বাঙ্ময় হয়েছে কয়েকজন মানব-মানবীর পদচারণায়। বিচলিত সময়ের প্রধান চরিত্রগুলি ইতিহাসের মোড়ক উন্মোচন করে জীবন্ত হয়ে উঠেছে লেখকের লেখনির কুশলতায়। ইতিহাসের আলো আঁধারি থেকে উঠে আসা কবি সৈয়দ জাফর, দেবদাসী নর্তকী রশমী, অহম রাজকন্যা নাঙছেন গাভারু, পর্তুগিজ কুঠিয়ালের বাঙালি ঘরণী মারিয়া প্রভৃতি চরিত্রকে যেন আমাদেরই আপনজন বলে মনে হয়। আর নতুন করে পাঠককে নিয়ে যায় আমাদের অনেক চেনা লালবাগ দূর্গ আর পরী বিবির ছায়াচ্ছন্ন দিনগুলিতে। অনুপুঙ্খ বর্ণনা সতেরোশ' শতকের বাঙালি সমাজের চালচিত্র বইটির উপরি পাওনা। সুদূর আমেরিকায় বসে লেখা এই বইটি লেখক আবদুন নূরের মেধা-মননের স্বাক্ষর হয়ে থাকবে। -ফখরুজ্জামান চৌধুরী
